The Department of English Studies, University of Cyprus, in collaboration with Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, announces within the framework of the YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe) alliance, a theatre translation workshop on play texts thematizing conflict and trauma. The workshop is open to university students, professional translators, and theatre practitioners interested in exploring translation as a performative, dramaturgical, and collaborative process. Participants will work intensively on the translation of selected play texts from English into Greek and Turkish. Fluency in English/Greek or English/Turkish and a clear interest in theatre and/or translation are required.
Previous experience in theatre translation is welcome but not necessary.
The Translation Workshop will take place at the Office Building of the Department of English Studies, Klimentos 9, Agios Antonis, and will comprise six weekly meetings from February to April (dates to be announced).
The Translation workshop will be followed by a performance workshop with a professional group of actors and dramaturge/director, which you are welcome to attend. The project will culminate in a public staged reading at the Archontiko of Axiothea (Eptanisou 11, Nicosia), where the translated script will be read by professional actors on June 12, 2026.
